Gift cards by Michael Morgan: expressive, whimsical & lyrical

About the artist: Visual artist, Michael Morgan, left Phillip Island in Victoria in 2012 to live on Bruny Island, Tasmania. Here he finds endless inspiration. Born in 1940, he had his first exhibition when he was in his teens; this was opened by the late John Brack. Such luminaries as Arthur Boyd, David Boyd, Noel Counihan, Ken Whisson, John Percival (the list goes on) took this young artist under their wings. Morgan has lectured in Art, studied Lithography and run a regional gallery. Morgan’s paintings are vibrant, free flowing works textured with lashings of paint. They are expressive, whimsical and lyrical. He believes, “Art should transcend depth and meaning beyond just decoration.” When asked what motivates him to create, he replied, “Each day is a delight. The creative force is strong. My art is an evolving process. I am finding my own authentic voice, and that takes a lifetime. The voice is growing stronger. I just love colour and paint.” This is evident in his work. Morgan loves paint. He is known for his powerful imagery, bold brushwork and use of strong vibrant colours. Nature and the world around him are a source of constant inspiration. He has an ingenuity of expression that he constantly transfers to canvases or murals.
